Lindeman Island Club Med for me it is everything that I could ever want under the banner I have seen both sides of the island first as a single and then spent part of my honeymoon there and I had a ball on both occasions.
How to get to Lindeman Island Club Med?
Direct flights to Hamilton Island are from most capital cities in Australia. Where you arrive in Hamilton Island you will find that there are service desks for all islands around Hamilton Island all you do is to go to the desk that says Lindeman Island Club Med.
They will check you in and ensure your luggage follows you to the launch that will go directly to the Island. When we were getting closer to the island I could hear music and singing as we got near the island. This was our welcome to the island where all staff comes to welcome you all smiling and happy which immediately puts you in the holiday mood.
We walk by the sports shack where every water sport possible is catered for catamarans kayak and windsurfers. There is also a huge pool with a pool bar at one end that I could immediately see myself spending a lot of time at. We were given a drink and were informed to go to our rooms and come back down for a walk around the resort.
The accommodation was a little disappointing and a little tired looking but was told that there was a major refurbishment on the cards in the next 18 months or so and it really needed it, as it was a little drab. But hey I wasn’t there to spend time in my room anyway.
The transport on the island is a little bus that you go to a pick up point and push a button and the bus comes along every 5-10 minutes for picks and drop offs. At the time this was my first experience at Club Med and didn’t really know what to expect, all that I knew that it was all inclusive including wine and beer and all I could eat buffets which for me helped with my budget as I knew I really only needed to buy souvenirs and drinks if I was drinking outside the dining areas in any of the bars on the island.
What the accommodation lacked was made up with the beautiful foods that were on offer night after night. We were always amazed at the decoration of the foods and the ice sculptures that decorated the tables night after night. Each night was different than the last with different themes, Mexican, Italian, and Seafood etc where you helped yourself and went up again and again.
You did this, as you couldn’t make up your mind what to try and then needed to leave room for dessert! The breads were made on the island and I just loved the white chocolate bread. I even saw people put in an order some to take home.
Every night you sat on a table with other holidaymakers and there was also a staff member to keep the conversation going. If you wanted too you could ask to have a meal on your own and if you wanted a quieter night there was always Nicholson’s, which is a beautiful restaurant, perched on the hill where you get waited on as you sit back and admire the view.
The view is superb as it looks over other surrounding islands as the sun goes down and casts shadows across the water the soft lights in the restaurant adds to the ambience. I liked the fact that you are served for me that one of the most special nights on the island.
What happens after dinner at Lindeman Island Club Med?
It becomes show time but before the show you get to do the Lindeman dance. Yes I know what you are thinking you will never get me to do that, well I can tell you after the first night you will be up dancing with the best of them. I have seen executives look a little shy on the first night but next night they lead the way with the dance and throw inhibitions to the wind. The entertainment is different each night and you will see the staff that taught you how to do a sport during the day up singing and dancing at night.
There is a flying circus on the island and you can learn the trapeze or send the kids to learn it or to juggle. They learn at sessions during the day and prepare to entertain you at one of the shows.
If you are not wanting to swim in the main bar where kids are you may want to go to the adult only pool where you can mooch around the pool drink cocktails and have the choice of not eating in the main area you will have the choice of foods in the games area. This for me was a little quieter during the day and the area that has also day spas if you want a little bit of me time.
What sports are taught at Lindeman Island Club Med?
Professional tuition and tournaments are run for:
- Golf
- Archery
- Tennis
- Basketball
This is the place to be to learn a new sport or improve the sport you are playing already. If you are a little more advanced than a beginner there are plenty of opportunities to play against others of the same or better skill level than you.
If you are an early starter you can go with a supervised bush walk, yoga or aerobics both types of aerobics on land or water. Water is great if you are unfit or carrying an injury.
As the sun goes down on the day you should grab a bottle of wine and head for the 9th hole and watch the sun go down while you sit on a bench sipping your wine. It will literally take your breath away seeing the sun change into many colors before it sets for the day. Very romantic if you are with someone special or who knows you may meet someone that you like to come and watch the sunset together.
There are walks you can go to coconut beach which is an easy walk make sure you take water, sunscreen and shoes not sandals. When you make it to the beach there will be coconuts on the sand, and it will keep you busy trying to open them! A little tip there are steel posts near the beach which you can break the coconut on this. It took me a week to find something hard enough to break it open with.
During the day there are fun games and competitions and you will find the staff are called “GOs” which stands for gentle organizers and they will coerce you into joining in games which is sometimes all that we need is someone to ask us to join in to try something different.
The days are filled with activities in and under the water or learn to play a sport. Perhaps you want to just chill out up at the top pool and treat yourself to a massage. If you want to have a picnic the island will pack you up a lunch with a little wine and travel to a neighboring island.
Or you can go on a barrier reef trip and snorkel all day. For me it had everything that I wanted on the island there was no need to go anywhere else. Lindeman Island has something for everyone you will have the time of your life and meet and keep in contact with people that you have met on the island.
As in typical Club Med style it caters for young, old, families and especially kids. If you want to avoid crowds at Lindeman Island avoid peak times or school holidays. Once you have been to Lindeman Island Club Med you will be planning your next holiday when you get home.
