While you might not necessarily want to go on a Star Trek, you may be interested in one of those trekking holidays Europe. These are a great way to explore “the old country” and because most European countries cram a lot of interesting architecture and culture into a fairly mall space, walking or bicycling around Europe is a fantastic way to travel. You can also do some parts of it as a side trip off of a singles cruise, or other type of cruise.

These kinds of treks are a great way to meet like-minded people, as well. Seeing Europe from foot or a bicycle while your on a holiday adventure, is a much more intimate way to sightsee. You could stay in a mountain hut on Mount Blanc, which is Europe’s highest peak. Another wonderful holiday can be spent amongst Corsicans. The Corsicans are French, with an Italian influence and the base for this trekking adventure starts in the beautiful village of Bocognano.
If you’re enjoying a trekking holidays Europe vacation then it may include The Pyrenees. Walk along high mountain ridges and through wonderful meadows and go from hut to hut for your overnight stays. You can see glacial lakes and easy to climb summits at Aigues National Park. There’s a network of pathways running across Europe for trekkers (not necessarily Star Trek aficionados), hikers, walkers and ramblers (not the old American car!).
Want to walk from sunny Portugal to mysterious Hungary? You can. Also, remember that treks of all types are available as shore excursions and stop overs off your singles cruise or other cruise types. There are maps available to help you pick your route and these are comprehensive. Of course, GPS is always useful and you won’t get lost as long as you can locate that satellite! An old fashioned map or two is good as a backup.
One interesting route in Spain is called the Route of Peace, and this incorporates places that were in the Spanish Civil War, 1936-1939. Barcelona, (handy if you are off the ship), has many walks that you can do in a day. The city has unique architecture, history, gardens, monuments, and many other things. The U.K. is a prime spot for walking tours and treks, with its home port of London and history dating back to Ancient Roman times, and many years before that as well. The British Museum is site of the Rosetta Stone, which was crucial to deciphering of Egyptian Hieroglyphics.
There’s an almost infinite number of choices for your trekking holidays Europe itinerary, whether you are fresh off a singles cruise or want to make a longer detour, or have even planned your holiday to incorporate both elements in your vacation.
